TRAINING AT A TRUCK SCHOOL

what to DO IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS

What to do if you are not getting the training you are paying for, or have other problems with trainers…

cOMPLAIN TO THE SCHOOL

Your school is REQUIRED to have a Complaint Policy and follow it. You should have received a copy of their policy with your contract. If you do not have a copy of the Complaint Policy, or it’s not on their website, ask the school to provide a copy.

Do not just verbally complain, PUT IT IN WRITING! If you do it by email you will have proof.

The school is required to follow their policy which must include giving you an answer IN WRITING.
The school must keep a record of your complaint and their response to you.

COMPLAIN TO THE MINISTRY

← Click here to make a complaint to the ministry. It is their job and goal to make sure students’ rights are protected! You can only do this AFTER you have complained in writing to the school (above). If the school does not follow their policy to provide a solution, or if you are not satisfied with their response.

Follow the procedure on the ministry’s page and the inspector assigned to your school will review your complaint and make sure you get a fair solution and your rights are upheld.

WHAT ELSE?

MELT Program Questions

  • Yes. On the ministry complaint page (above) there is an email address you can send any questions or reports to.

If you had a bad experience, even if you managed to pass your test and are clear now, you’ll be helping other students by making a report so that they don’t have to go through what you did!

  • We have never heard of that happening but we have heard of bad school owners threatening students it could happen to prevent them from reporting or complaining. You should not trust someone who threatens you to prevent you from exercising your student rights.

  • No. If you were misled by the school and told to sign documents, they are the ones that should be in trouble. Students need to be able to trust schools.

You can help future students by reporting your problems and helping the ministry to bring the school into proper practices.

  • ABSOLUTELY NOT! The ministry is there to protect students whether citizen or visitor. If anyone tells you that you could get in trouble for contacting the ministry, they are lying and breaking the law by trying to prevent you from accessing help or exercising your rights.

Persons who do this are exploiting students’ lack of knowledge for their own gain, usually because they know their MELT Program is not proper and only want to keep making money off of unsuspecting students.

  • Making sure your training hours are tracked! Do it yourself if you have to. Put it in your Google calendar!

When you are in the yard – only the time you spend with the instructor and no more than 3 other students counts toward the 17 hours.  Do not accept ‘self-practice’!!

When you are learning and practising coupling/uncoupling and backing, only the time you have one-on-one with an instructor teaching and supervising you counts toward your 18 hours!

Count your one-on-one driving instruction from the time you and your instructor start, and be sure you get 32 hours! Waiting in the yard does not count!

  • Contact us using a comments form or by email.  If we don’t have an answer, we’ll find someone who does!

    1. Hi Inder, if you did not get the proper hours of training by a qualified instructor, they you need to EMAIL the school and make a complaint. If you do not get a proper answer then you need THEN complain to PCC. https://www.ontario.ca/page/private-career-college-students-rights-and-responsibilities#section-3

Their inspectors will be there to help you get a proper answer.
It is their job to help the students know what their rights are.

If the school makes any kind of threat to you you really should tell PCC, they will be there to help you!!
